Got Questions? We’ve Got Answers
If you have a question, we recommend that you look for answers in our FAQs.
We have attempted to address the most commonly asked questions in a straightforward manner.
DID YOU KNOW – Volatile organic compounds, or VOCs, are organic compounds that easily become vapours or gases.
Nonmetals are composed of elements such as hydrogen, oxygen, fluorine, chlorine, bromine, sulphur or nitrogen.
** Virgin aggregate is used in the manufacture of Asphalt in a Bag, as it is currently a cheaper option than using recycled asphalt.

Once the gap is cleaned out, what depth should it be?
A base course of sand and stone should be put down first and compacted down hard. Ideal depth when doing any Asphalt work is 50mm but with our product 25 to 30 mm should suffice.
Should the edge line be tidied up?
No, this is not necessary.
Should the length of the repair be rolled with a roller?
Yes and then compacted again after crowned to ensure that it is compacted down hard. The one draw back that we have with ANY cold asphalt is the curing time because in this time frame any stiletto type shoes and walking sticks with sharp points may pierce the Asphalt and cause holes
What warranty (in terms of time) you provide with your product?
Asphalt is Lifetime performance guarantee so as long as the area surrounding the repair stays intact our product should too.
What depth is ideal?
Minimum 25mm ideally 50mm.
How much do I need?
1 x 20kg bag will cover approx. ½ square metre at 22mm thickness or 1 tonne bulk bag will cover 25 Square metres.
Which, if any, of the three grades of aggregate packs down more?
Rule of thumb for compaction rates is whatever the mix size times by 2.5 for minimum compression and maximum is 4 times. For Example Mix 10 product minimum compaction is 25mm and maximum is 40mm.
What makes Asphalt in a Bag Eco Friendly “GREEN”?
Asphalt in a Bag GREEN can** contain recycled material. It has ZERO VOC’s*, and Asphalt in a Bag GREEN will NOT leech any hydrocarbons.
What mixes and sizes can I get the Asphalt in a Bag GREEN in?
Mix 10, Mix 7 and a (Mix 5 if requested – Lead time required for manufacture). All mixes are dense mixes and unique to Asphalt in a Bag.
Why is a dense mix so important compared to other open graded mixes?
- Density is probably the most important parameter in the construction of asphalt mixtures; the inclusion of more dust and a therefore higher % of blend in our Asphalt in a Bag Dense Mix, allows less space or ‘voids’ between dust and stones. The proportion of air voids in a compacted asphalt mix is a critical performance characteristic.
- A lower percentage of voids prevents the permeation of air and water, this is ideal in an asphalt repair and an important specification to consider. It certainly proves to be the difference between the success or failure of a repair.
Can I include Asphalt in a Bag GREEN in my Green Eco-Friendly Purchasing Initiatives?
Yes, Asphalt in a Bag GREEN is considered and environmentally preferable purchase (EPP). It is also the first product to be endorsed by the National Eco-Friendly Energy Council in the USA.
I am concerned about “Green washing.” Is your product really GREEN?
Yes! Other companies are calling their cold patch products GREEN simply because they contain recycled asphalt and yet they still contain harmful chemicals and have high VOCs. We are truly GREEN in that we have completely removed the toxic solvents from our product. And yes, we can include recycled asphalt. Our bags are made of recyclable plastic.
How long does Asphalt in a Bag GREEN stay fresh for in a bag?
12 months in a sealed bag.
